Please tell me of sweet love, cruel hate
Pure passions, fond desires
Flowers near a cottage gate
Dear memories, steep church spires

Sad good-byes, uplifting psalms
Renaissance and art
Angelic anthems, peaceful balms
That soothe the broken heart

Let me hear leaves rustling in the breeze
Feel snow fall softly on the trees
Sense the blush of innocence
Rejoice at someone's penitence.

Artists can at best portray
What only the eye can see
But the windows to the soul, I'd say
Are flung open wide with poetry.

Fresh joy of youth, old age, new birth
Majestic beauty of the earth
Heaven, the sea as billows foam
